Have you come across those fun Facebook posts about ice wine grape picking and wondered what ice wine is all about? Let us fill you in!
Here in Northeast Ohio, the chilly weather is perfect for freezing the sweet nectar on the vines in our snow-covered vineyards south of Lake Erie. This special climate allows our talented winemakers to create truly amazing ice wines.
Harvesting ice wine is a bit of an adventure! It usually takes place in the early morning when temperatures dip well below freezing. This commitment leads to a beautifully concentrated juice with brix levels (a hydrometer scale for measuring the amount of sugar in a solution at a given temperature) of 37 to 40, which is just right for crafting delightful dessert wines.

In the Grand River Valley, you can discover a fantastic selection of delicious wines, such as Vidal Blanc, Concord, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. Each one has its own special flavors—think juicy peach and apricot, sweet honey, and tangy cherry and citrus! They pair perfectly with bold cheeses, delightful sweets, and even spicy dishes.
We invite you to come and taste the ice wines from our region! The 22nd Annual Ice Wine Festival will take place from March 1st to March 31st at participating wineries in the Grand River Valley. Each winery will offer samples of their ice wines, paired with delicious appetizers. We are excited for you to experience these delightful flavors!
